It was a nerve wrecking fight between the veteran 33 year old American Serena Williams and the young Spaniard Garbine Muguruza that finally ended in the favor of Serena with a 6-4, 6-4 victory. However, it was the 21-year old Spanish sensation who pilfered the rumble with her stunning performance. She received a standing ovation during the trophy ceremony for her scintillating display on the court. Serena, who reunited with the trophy for a record sixth time, was also full of praise for first-time Grand Slam finalist as she said, “Garbine played so well, I didn’t know it was over – you’ll be holding this trophy very soon, believe me.”
